Etsy Fees Explained: Every Charge on Your Payment Account
A plain-English guide to Etsy listing, transaction, payment processing, advertising, and shipping label fees, and where each one shows up for sellers.
The sales number on your Etsy dashboard is not the money you keep. Etsy takes its fees in several places, on different days, and some of them are charged to the shop instead of to an order. This guide lists each charge so you know what to look for.
The three fees every seller pays
| Fee | Amount | When it is charged |
|---|---|---|
| Listing fee | $0.20 per listing, including renewals | When you publish or renew a listing, whether or not it sells |
| Transaction fee | 6.5% of the order total | Only when an item sells |
| Payment processing fee | A percentage plus a flat amount, which varies by country | On each sale paid through Etsy Payments |
The transaction fee applies to the item price plus any shipping and gift wrap you charge the buyer. Payment processing is taken from the full sale amount, including shipping and any applicable sales tax, and is deducted before your deposit. For US sellers it has been 3% plus $0.25, but Etsy sets the rate, so confirm it in your own Payment account.
Listing fee details that surprise people
- Listings expire after four months. Renewing costs another $0.20.
- If you list a quantity of more than one, you pay $0.20 for each extra unit only when it sells.
- If a listing with leftover quantity sells, it auto-renews and you pay the $0.20 renewal fee.
- Editing a listing is free.
Fees that depend on the tools you use
- Etsy Ads: you set a daily budget and pay for clicks, whether or not they lead to a sale.
- Offsite Ads: a percentage of the order total, charged only when a sale is attributed to an ad Etsy ran off Etsy. Etsy has used 15%, or 12% for shops with higher sales, and participation is required above a sales threshold. Check Etsy's current terms.
- Shipping labels bought on Etsy: the label cost, plus sales tax on the label where it applies. These are separate lines from the order itself.
- Currency conversion: charged when your listing currency differs from your Payment account currency.
- Etsy Plus: a monthly subscription charged to the shop, not to an order.
Depending on where you sell, you may also see a regulatory operating fee or VAT on fees. These vary by country, so look at the labels on your own statement.
Where to find your fees in Etsy
- Sign in and open Shop Manager on Etsy.com.
- Select Finances, then Payment account.
- Open a month and download the monthly statement CSV for line-by-line detail.
Why the total is hard to see
Per-order fees, shop-level charges such as listing fees and subscriptions, ad spend, and label costs all sit on separate lines. Adding them up by hand means filtering a spreadsheet by fee type and checking that nothing is counted twice. Most sellers do it once, get a number, and never repeat it.
